Testing coverage for the Farleigh Hospice Cycle for Life

Members of the Essex RAYNET Engineering Team were out today testing the coverage of the proposed comms plan for the forthcoming Farleigh Hospice Cycle for Life.

The plan was to reduce the number of  repeaters from five to only two.  It was also seen as an opportunity to compare the normal FM repeater overage with our new IDAS repeater system.

The proposed setup involved a centrally located 70cm inband repeater and APRS digipeater

A temporary Control Point

and a cross band repeater with second digipeater near the northern boundary of the route.

Out stations provided signal reports on both VHF and UHF, using FM and IDAS

The coverage testing was a great success and once again the effectiveness of the IDAS system was obvious.
