Essex RAYNET is sad to announce the passing of its longest serving member and founder of RAYNET, G8PYD Graham Farrell, on Sunday 12th November.
Graham had been with Essex RAYNET for 45 years+, volunteering his time and expertise in his spare time, to help support the local and district community, in times of need such as emergency callouts and community events for charity.
Graham spent many years working for Essex Fire and Rescue Service, as a Communications Technician, which allowed him to combine his skillset with amateur radio and of course, RAYNET.
For many years, Graham was the Treasurer of Essex RAYNET until early 2022, when he unfortunately suffered a stroke and needed to take a step back from active service.
However, Graham always kept up to date with the latest news and activities of the group, including taking part in regular monthly Cascade Nets, via our countywide RF repeater network – which he was an integral part of its commission in the early days.
Graham will be greatly missed by us all at Essex RAYNET, both past and present.
We send our condolences to the family of Graham during this difficult and emotional time of great loss.
At the next committee meeting in December, we will be discussing how we can best commemorate G8PYD in the years ahead.
