Farleigh Hospice Santa Fun Runs 2009
- Both events went
off very well, the Chelmsford event almost being
a wet event but the rain thankfully stopped as
the runners started to arrive. The event
saw a few blisters but no real 'business' for
either ourselves or the Red Cross. We fielded a
small team of four operators for the Chelmsford
event these being:
G7UHE Geoff Tiller, G7RGR Roger Jones, 2E0XRF Gail Osborne & 2E0STY Chris
Layton
In addition to that team Nigel G6ZVV provided invaluable assistance by
setting up the 70cm inband repeater allowing us
to all work with handhelds in the park.
- This event saw
just under 900 Santas take part.
The Maldon event was held in the Promenade Park with the run stretching
from the entrance near Mill Road right down to
the Maldon Yacht Club. Being near
the water this was a much colder event, the team
of operators for this event were
G0DEC Dave Willicombe, M3OIL Owen Hutley,
- G7UHE Geoff
Tiller, G4WQI Dean Saxton, 2E0XRF Gail Obsorne &
G4RPF Phil Osborne.
Dave and Owen arrived early and managed to gain
access to allow the incident support vehicle (Owen's
van) on-site, this was used as a the control
point. As I was suffering from a seasonal
cold I was replaced as event controller by Dave
G0DEC as my voice was not up to the job. This
second event was slightly larger, with around
1000 Santas taking part, it was another quiet
event for us with no incidents, our BRCS
colleagues didn't receive much business from the
event but we understood they did attend two
casualties, non-event park users playing
football!
