Midnight Walk Event Report

Another very successful event despite the late start, or was it an early start?

The first walkers to complete the course, did so after approximately 90 minutes, unfortunately, it took the sweeper and the slower participants  just under 3 hours to finish the 12km walk.

A couple of medical emergencies occurred during the event, which were swiftly dealt with by St John Ambulance our user service.

APRS was employed for this event to keep track of the support vehicle and sweeper.  Unfortunately, the support vehicle APRS unit, was inconsistent, however, the sweepers beacon worked well.  The availability of the Colchester digipeater MB7UH was very welcome.

Owing to the general topography of the course, the voice net required a number of cross-band repeaters to be installed.  These were co-located at checkpoints.

The event organisers have reported that in excess of £144,000 was pledged in sponsorship money on the night.

Thank you to everyone that helped at the Midnight Walk.
